About Expressive Art

Essentially, anyone can use it. The world is full of ways of communicating and expressing one’s self; expressive therapy is just another form of communication. Not all humans are capable of expressing themselves with the use of words or language; this merely provides a different means to get their message across. One unique aspect of art therapy is the ability to use any art form the individual desires - there are no restrictions. One can choose to use the performing arts or the more traditional forms like photography or sculpture - the possibilities are endless.

Another beauty of this form of treatment is that it can be used even if one is not talented in a specific art form. In other words, if one is not trained to sing or dance it makes no difference, as these forms can still be practiced. While it may seem odd initially, this is only because the individual is not in the habit of communicating through the arts. The creative process becomes one of the most rewarding experiences with the aid of an art therapist and the comfort level increases with time.
